No connectors/bushings installed on the top 2 conduits.

The 2 pipes into the top of the (disco?) suggest he is planning to "double lug" the line side of the disconnect.

I see a bushing at the bottom, perhapse he intends to install them once he finishes pulling the wire...

Bibbed overalls and a necktie? Apparently jobsite dress standards have slipped a little.

TG, The best I can tell, that is a 3 phase disco and could be feeding motors or the like.The load whatever it is doesn't need a neutral. It looks like njwirenutt is right judging from the length of the wires, he's probably going to tap off the line side, no ocp between there and where the wire lands!

Looks like the disco switch handle is in the down position but can't tell the contact position.

PS: I scanned the picture above from a January 1958 IAEI News Bulletin. I was only 18 years old then.

I wanted to show that this type of stuff shows violations and unrecognized practices, even in today's magazines that show violations.

For 1958, that musta' been that new-fangled TW wire. Probably a bakelite base in the switch, too. No more cloth-covered RW or slate! {I woulda' been a little punk asking a whole bunch of dumb questions.}

The man is a model, not an electrician.

The entire set-up here was designed by a photographer's crew from an ad agency, not electrical contractors or engineers.

The photog tells the model how to pose....then +kaPOOF+ picture taken (easy on the flash-powder here).

What was that other picture of anti-short bushings for BX being used incorrectly? It was also from an ad for those little things.

That cap he's wearing is just an engineer's cap, how many do you want?

Your last picture of the lineman 's I would think pre-date me by about 20 years.

That's the way I started ( 1946 ) by being a 'grunt' but no ties.

I do have a few in the ROP's, mostly for my own clarification of some text.

ok here i go with my two cents worth. to me aluminum wire for circuts is nothing but trouble looking for a place to happen ,even if it is installed correctly.

Has anyone used Compact Stranded Aluminum conductors?

Copper - GOOD!

I think a big clue that this is just a photo setup shot is that I have yet to see anybody carry their tools in their bag with the handles down. An ad guy found some schmoe who looked "the part", set up a shot that looked good to any ad guy, and there it is.

Happens every day. We see it because we are electricians, but I'm sure we see adds everyday for other things that we have no idea how wrong they are.

I actually hang my linemans in my bags handles down, not the dyke or strippers. Just the linemans. Kinda like it, never had a problem with it..... Oh, when I get lazy, and don't want the bags on, one side of the handles in the front pocket too.
