I see a few violations, do you see any?
No connectors/bushings installed on the top 2 conduits.
The 2 pipes into the top of the (disco?) suggest he is planning to "double lug" the line side of the disconnect.
I see a bushing at the bottom, perhapse he intends to install them once he finishes pulling the wire...
Bibbed overalls
and a necktie? Apparently jobsite dress standards have slipped a little.
Is he related to
this dude ?
He's not working live is he? With both hands in there at the same time?
No PPE and his tools are too neatly arranged. Anybody know where I get a hat like that?
Bob
Yep, like the hat. I'm leery of the business end of those tools sticking up like that, my fingers wold be bloody right off!
His cap reminds me of ol' BB...
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/beetlebailey.asp?date=20021224 I must live under a rock. Never seen Kleins or dikes in a pouch handles down.
I don't see any markings for a neutral wire.
TG, The best I can tell, that is a 3 phase disco and could be feeding motors or the like. The load whatever it is doesn't need a neutral. It looks like njwirenutt is right judging from the length of the wires, he's probably going to tap off the line side, no ocp between there and where the wire lands!
Ah, OK. Thanks.
Well, I did have one other theory; perhaps he was thinking about his vacation?
Is that disco fed from the bottom?
Looks like the disco switch handle is in the down position but can't tell the contact position.
Are you sure that isn't Joe of a (quite ) a few years ago ?
Hi Joe T.

Are you sure that isn't Joe of a (quite) a few years ago ?
No --- Not Me Glenn!
How in the heck are you doing? Any proposals sent in for the 2005 ROP?
PS: I scanned the picture above from a January 1958 IAEI News Bulletin. I was only 18 years old then.
I wanted to show that this type of stuff shows violations and unrecognized practices, even in today's magazines that show violations.
How working clothes have changed!
Here's another well-dressed chap at work, this time from 1966:

Come on now, this is getting a bit silly now.
Can anyone tell me the last time they had a shirt, tie and jacket to go an start, or even, finish a remodel job,
Photos please !!!

For 1958, that musta' been that new-fangled TW wire. Probably a bakelite base in the switch, too. No more cloth-covered RW or slate! {I woulda' been a little punk asking a whole bunch of dumb questions.}
Here's the entire advertisement. Somebody out there knows the story here?
Well...THIS makes it much clearer!!! It's from an ad!
The man is a model, not an electrician.
The entire set-up here was designed by a photographer's crew from an ad agency, not electrical contractors or engineers.
The photog tells the model how to pose....then +kaPOOF+ picture taken (easy on the flash-powder here).
What was that other picture of anti-short bushings for BX being used incorrectly? It was also from an ad for those little things.
That cap he's wearing is just an engineer's cap, how many do you want?
I wear one everyday.

Joe,
Your last picture of the lineman 's I would think pre-date me by about 20 years.
That's the way I started ( 1946 ) by being a 'grunt' but no ties.
I do have a few in the ROP's, mostly for my own clarification of some text.

Hey look guys, There is Joe T in the front row. He is going to hang anyone who violates the NEC! 'Specially that guy who gave him that lousey extension cord at that one meeting he had.
Just kidding Joe.
Harold
tell me,do i see daylight inside the top of the panel.3/4 or 1 inch conduit.right side.(panel rotted)
no ground wire
the strap on the 11/2 or 2 in conduit
nice hat too.....
ok here i go with my two cents worth. to me aluminum wire for circuts is nothing but trouble looking for a place to happen ,even if it is installed correctly.
Has anyone used Compact Stranded Aluminum conductors?
Aluminum - BAD
Copper - GOOD!
I think a big clue that this is just a photo setup shot is that I have yet to see anybody carry their tools in their bag with the handles down. An ad guy found some schmoe who looked "the part", set up a shot that looked good to any ad guy, and there it is.
Happens every day. We see it because we are electricians, but I'm sure we see adds everyday for other things that we have no idea how wrong they are.
I actually hang my linemans in my bags handles down, not the dyke or strippers. Just the linemans. Kinda like it, never had a problem with it..... Oh, when I get lazy, and don't want the bags on, one side of the handles in the front pocket too.
