We have a hotel that is wishing to network in their exterior lighting so they could remotely power off/on the lighting from a phone or computer. A plus would be something we could also set a schedule for. Is there some kind of equipment we could network in to control the 110v contactor coil? I handle computer networking and not electrical, so wasn't for sure if this is something that could be done or not. Thanks!
Look at the X-10 stuff. They are doing a lot more than power line carrier these days.
There are a number of products out there, and the details differ. I'd check local commercial / government jobs, and see what they're using. See who the architect they use, and ask the architect for his preferences. Also, Wal-Mart has been using remotely controlled Square D QO circuit breakers for at least a decade.

The newer systems differ in detail, but the installation is similar. They involve mounting a lighting control panel near the breaker panels, and taking power from existing circuits.

From these lighting panels are run low voltage cables to brand specific light switches. Other components in the panel allow for automatic and remote control.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I haven't had much luck with local contractors. Would something like this work?

I played with one of those and I like them for remote monitoring. I'm not sure how secure they are. You have to open up your firewall.

I was wondering about the Lutron Caseta. The one I have wouldn't control a contactor because it has a ramped on and off. Maybe they have something like it that is a straight switch, or you might be able to put a voltage relay between the controlled power and the contactor. The Caseta is controlled by a phone and can be programmed for times.
I just sat in on a Lutron Caseta seminar put on by a Lutron sales rep at a local electrical supplier. Very interesting and I ended up buying a starter kit just to test it out at home.
