Is there a web site that lists the states and current code in effect in all or most states??I think some are still on the 99 and possibly 96 ,Thank you

OK, I'll start..
New Jersey adopted the 2002 NEC as the Electrical Sub-Code within the NJUCC (5:23)
(BTW, with some amendments.)
There's talk of the '05 being adopted sometine before June of '06.

Texas is under the 2002, but will go to the "05" on July 1st.

Wow! According to that, Virginia is *still* under NEC 1993 for Residential? That just doesn't seem right... I thought VA had invoked IBC 2003 which invoked NEC 2002 by reference?

Try searching on the NEMA.org site or on the NEC site. I downloaded a list with the information you want last year.

Virginia adopted the 2000 IBC under the USBC and the 1999 NEC. Dont know when we will catch up. Shame!

then chose the NEC interactive map option from the left hand column. Click on a state in the map and it take you to the electrical code site for that state.

Last Thursday I spoke with NYS about the code referencing, here is what is most likely to happen.
After a public session in july - giving the public a chance for their own say, the state will most likely adopt THEIR CODE in September. The Code will be official January 1st of 2006.
For 1&2 family dwellings with a service of 400 amps or smaller, the IBC (section 8) will be the governing code with reference to the 2002 NEC.

ALL OTHER INSTALLATIONS will reference the 2005 NEC.
Could it be any more confusing for electrical contractors?
Be prepared NYers as Arc Fault is coming our way.
For one and two family - Arc Fault to the 2002, for Multifamily - Arc Fault to the 2005.


BTW I was asked to sit on the NY State Electrical Committee, starting later this year. I have to submit my letter by the 2nd week of April.

I just sat in on a 'Round Table' meeting this week with representatives from our local associations and some Town, County and State people. I heard basically the same thing.

BTW, we already have some areas referencing the 2005 NEC (as long as it is more restrictive than the NYS Residential/1999 NEC). That's pretty confusing in itself.
