Does there need to be a seperate disconnect for the evap cooler other than the circuit breaker that feeds the cooler and the internal disconnect for the motor and pump (plug and receptacle supplied by manuf.)? I don't have my code book handy... Code refrences please. (2003 NEC)
Not required. The cord and plug assembly acts as the disconnect.
Mike, I don't know about Las Vegas but Tucson city code requires fused OL protection for both the fan motor and the pump. We use a special Midwest box with fuses, receptacles and an in use cover. It even has a separate fuse for hi and lo.
They must be using the "2003 NEC"
Las Vegas is 2003 NEC w/o any local ammendments. Thanks everyone!!!
Mike - sorry for my somewhat sarcastic post previously. I was trying to indicate that the NEC (National Electrical Code NFPA 70) was not published in 2003. The NEC was published in 2002 and then the next edition is 2005. I suspect that your city (Las Vegas I think) is on their 2003 Electrical Code and maybe it references the 2002 NEC.
2002... 2003... what's a year among friends! I've been dealing a binch with the 2003 ICC codes lately...
