Does it require in the NEC code to have an outdoor light in the balcony for 3-family house?

Hi,
I think exterior lights by exits on a single family dwelling are only required at grade level and garage doors do not qualify but the door to a garage does.

As a matter of fact one light on the exterior that is adjacent to an exit can serve to meet this requirement for both exits, so you do not really need a light at each door if there are multiple doors. the light must be controlled by a photocell though..

Just like if you have a duplex with a common entry.. a single light can serve both entry ways...I think...i will probably get burned on this because I am thinking that the occupants of the dwelling must have control of the light.

hope that helps
