Thank you.

Does this mean that it doesn't matter what year of NEC code we are in? or does it only apply to 2002 NEC Code?

Arc fault protection was not mandatory untill the adoption of the 2002 NEC. Historically the Code will contain introductory language through the cycle preceeding its enforceable adoption. The 1999 language was such. It would have been permissable to install arc faults thru the 99 cycle but not necessary untill adoption of the languge in 2002 Code

Welcome Rknikko and Cpal.

Actually the wording in the 99 NEC made it Mandatory starting on 1-1-02 even if your local stayed under the 99 code.

The difference was, if you were staying with the 99 code, only Receptacle outlets were required to be protected.
