The NEC still uses the term "Flexible Tubing" See 314.17(B) for example.
I used it to protect the generator wire on my 1929 Model A.

Joe,
Can we still install K & T?

Joe:
Wasn't this stuff used on some K&T installations?
I seem to remember a few jobs that had K&T, and in a few places in the basement ceiling, the conductors were in some type of "flex tube", like cotton.

Here's K&T spliced with BX:
A short excerpt from the 2002 NEC:
394.10 Uses Permitted. Concealed knob-and-tube wiring
shall be permitted to be installed in the hollow spaces of
walls and ceilings or in unfinished attics and roof spaces as
provided in 394.23 only as follows:
(1) For extensions of existing installations
(2) Elsewhere by special permission

John:
My pleasure. That was in my attic
Joe,
How many times I had to deal with K&T wiring. Yikes. Man that stuff could get scary. I have seen many attics with K&T wiring and there is insulation all around it. ( Sometimes with AL foil backing up against the single wire.)Also how many times I have dropped down a light fixture with K&T wiring only to find 2 bare pieces of copper wire. All the insulation was dried, cracked, and fell off the old RH wire on the K&T.
