I'm doing a townhouse, with 6 units in 1 building, and they are real weird they are all next to eachother but some stack on top of other ones.

I know we can't have a panel on a wall thats shared with a unit nextdoor unless there is a firewall with a 2 hr rating between the units.

So I have this unit that is stacked ontop of a different unit. If I droped my home runs in the ideal spot, it would drop from my unit into a different unit, and then down 1 more level back into my unit where the panel is. Its a straight drop, no jogging over a few feet or anything.

My question is can I run, my HR's through a different unit.

I don't think I can, but I don't have much of a reason why, other than 'better safe, than sorry.' And its a real crappy pull over to this dead space where I can drop down, than I jog back over to where the panel is. Wasting a good 100+' of wire per hr.

We call this place '4 stories of fun.' some units there is acually 40 steps before you get to a living area. And 52 steps to the bedrooms. Yes my feet are killing me. [Linked Image]

Thanks

I would call the AHJ and ask this question. It's really the only way to cover yourself.

Good Luck!

I agree that I don't think you can "legally" do it, but if you get permission from the AHJ and the contractor you might be able to. But my money is on them saying NO because you have property of one unit in another unit and if there's ever a problem you can't address it without disrupting another owner, but I would ask anyway.

Don't the service entrance conductors pass through the other units?

lol, Yes they do.

Service conductors, must be one of the exceptions.? Heck I can't make sense of it.
