I'm in the process of having equipment delivered which has a gas train installed on it. Someone brought up the point that the area around the gas should be class 1 Div 2. I thought I understood the gas equipment meeting FM approval was exempt from requiring hazardous classification, ie classified wiring techniques. Is this true and if so what/where (What code) is this stated or talked about. Any help would be great.

We could say that an entire house is Class 1 Division 2 if it has a gas stove in it.

I've seen a lot of furnaces installed with a snap switch mounted on the outside at about the same height as the burners.

NFPA 54 may be helpful?

DS, I hope you were kidding. classify a house because it has a gas stove?

I agree with Joe, check out the NFPA documents.

A discussion with your fire marshal might help also.

PS What is gas train?
