I heard a new term....
Hertz Vibration
U guys wanna help me out?
Posted By: Redsy Re: It Hertz - 08/09/01 11:44 PM
Did you hear it in reference to a piece of machinery being analyzed for vibration?
Posted By: sparky Re: It Hertz - 08/09/01 11:48 PM
Redsy,
no, in regards to a circuit breaker under load....

Hertz refers to oscillations per second. Sound and other vibrations are correctly measured in hertz.

Did they simply mean it was humming or buzzing?

(Sounds like them there fancy words to me...)

Did the people using the word know what they were talking about?
This field is full of techno-babble. And also full of people who barely know what they are doing, but can sound pretty impressive to the un-educated.

Sounds like John Boy & Billy's "Wordy Words" to me.

Maybe you were buffaloed. It took me a long time before I was confident about what I know(not that it is a lot). I always figured that every one knew better than me. But, once I started questioning people who seemed to be so sure of themselves, it was interesting to see them back-pedal and hem and haw. Next time you see them, just ask them what they mean by "Hertz vibration". You might be in for some entertainment!

It's a rental car with bad tires and shocks?

Want a guess?

Isn't there some sort of movement of (or within) a conductor when Voltage is applied and current flows? Picture filament in a bulb as an extreme. And what happens when it changes direction as during normal operation? I've got to think there's some vibration going on there due to normal AC cycling.

What do you think?

Bill

hmmmm,
I don't know to head for the theory section , a lingustic's thread, or a rental truck thread with this......LOL

Could you provide the whole quote (or as much as you can remember). I still think they were talking nonsense.

Sparky,

I think it's a good Theory topic, whether or not they knew what they were talking about.

What makes a Transformer Hum ... Hmm ?

Go for it ..

Could you have a "mile-distance"

or a "decible-sound"

or a "pound-weight" (wait, that sounds familiar...)

"Ya got some hertz-viberation goin' on here ma'am, that's real baaaaddd..."

(I think you got buffaloed too, Steve... sorry...)
