I'm obviously missing something on the requirements in 680.42 A(1). It says you can use flexible metal conduit, etc... but the length can't be over 6ft. The disconnect has to be 5 ft. away, so how are you going to get by with 6ft. of flex? Even if you run it in a straight line, it will take probably at least a foot to get it in the connection. The way I see it you can't use flex then unless you run emt then change over to flex. Confused.

Thanks for the input

By the way, I'm reading out of the 2011 Code. Don't have the 2014 available now.

I run conduit until I'm about 3 feet away; then use a transition coupling to change over to flex.

Yup, either a transition fitting or a fixed in place J box. You just use the flex to get to the tub so you have some wiggle room for the installer, similar to an AC condenser except the AC does not have the 5 feet rule. I usually see CarFlex, non metallic here.
