Can 6/3 Romex be used for a 60 amp sub panel ?

With 60 amp OCP at the source of the feeder, yes. As long as it is in a location that is OK for NM, and not subject to physical damage.

However, your profile indicates you are in NY, so I suggest you check if there are any local issues with NM.

Doesn't this limit you to 55 amps?

Yes, Greg.
However, there is no 55 amp CB or fuses, which allows the next higher amperage.

OK cool. I knew there was a loophole, I just had a senior moment. I guess I shouldn't answer questions until I get my second cup of coffee.

Senior moments are quite common with me also.

Coffee (2nd cup) by 9:00AM the latest.

PS: Just went thru the math at a burnout. 10 sets of 500KCMil Cu, no longer equates to 4000 amps. Yes, it was an old service, however, now it will be 10 sets of 600KCMil Cu. Hopefully, they can pull out the old. With a major snow event Tuesday, my Twp is closed, and may close Wed also.

Your weather has made the national news here in UK. How are you getting on with it?
Posted By: HotLine1 Re: Sub - Panel - 03/14/17 10:12 PM
Here in NJ, where I am (coastal) it has been heavy rain, and gusty winds from around midnight to 300PM. Where I work, 50 miles to the north, there was/is 12+ inches of snow, and wind.

Further north, into real north Jersey I hear 18-24" snow.

All in all, my snow blower sits in the garage, only used once sp far this year.

Brrr
Your cold front got down here too but it translated into 1/4" of rain in about 15 minutes and then it cooled down a little. (70 day, 50 night)

"Cold Front" at 70 day and 40 night. LOL

It was 17 when I left this AM, and 19 when I got up here to work. Five of us spent 1-1/2 Hrs hacking the ice/snow off of the Twp vehicles. About 12-14" on the ground here in Edison.

On Long Island we ended up with about an inch of ice on everything. A big nothinburger!

That's ok by me...
