Does the code limit the amount of extensions can be put on a 4" square box??

thanks

Not really. Joe Tedesco used to have pictures of boxes with a bunch of them on it.

The use of extension rings is limited by the length of your pigtails. Stack enough of them, and you'll need longer pigtails.

Does someone have a UL number for an extension. I do believe an extension is listed for only one. Don't quote me, yet. I could be wrong.

My White Book is in the office, and my laptop with the UL stuff is on my desk!

THe extensions are UL stamped(at least all I have checked), but you raise a good question on the wording within the listing.

Renos comment is what is cited on multi extensions. The most I came upon was a long time back, and it was four (4) extensions on a 232 deep.

I've seen doubled extensions all over creation.

I've seen four + the base pass inspection without qualms.

For what it's worth,I'd rather 'waste' an extra extension ring than try and cram conductors down into less space.

But, that puts me in the minority. I picked up this bias after becoming the favorite fix-it-for the inspection e-man at every firm I worked for. I came to hate 'tight' j-boxes.

Being the 'last man through' became part of my job routine.

The other stinker was being forced to clean up any warranty calls that stumped the other foremen. (Usually the bosses expected a foreman to fix his own stuff. But that didn't always work out. Then it'd be tossed into my lap.)

I leave this as a warning to other j-men: don't get my kind of reputation. Aim for Homer Simpson: he got all of the best jobs.
