Does this mean that 1 & 2 family dwellings don't need GFCI protection on their pools?


Section 2705 Equipotential Bonding GFCI Protection



2705.1 NFPA 70 - 08: National Electric Code, Article 680 (Swimming Pools, Fountains, and Similar Installation), Section 680.22(B), GFCI Protection, is amended to read as follows:



(B) GFCI Protection. Outlets supplying pool pump motors from branch circuits with short-circuit and ground-fault protection rated 15 or 20 amperes, 125 volt or 240 volt, single phase, whether by receptacle or direct connection, shall be provided with ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.



Exception: One-and two-family dwellings.

Glad it aint just me. I had that "puppy want a treat" look on my face when I read it.

Florida exempted hard wired pool pumps in 1 & 2 family, at least that is what the intent was. It does look like the wording they came up with completely removed the GFCI requirement for hardwired and 240v pumps. 120v 15-20a Receptacles "outdoors" will still need GFCI protection.
I suppose an indoor pool wouldn't need any GFCIs
There are plenty of inspectors who disagreed with this change.
