If I have 2 inch conduit entering one side of a box and exiting with a 2 inch directly across from the conduit entering the box we have a straight pull. Right? If the conductors are AWG #4 or larger the box needs to be at least 16 inches between conduit entries hence at least a 16 inch box. (NEC 314.28(A)(1) '05 Ed.) Now- if I splice these conductors can I reduce the size of the box to 12 inches based on (2)?

George,
A splice doesn't change anything. If the conduit goes straight it is 8 X and if the conduit goes out a wall at 90° it is 6 X.

Don- I agree with you put you'll get arguements if the conduits are offset or if there is a splice. I think it should be made clearer somehow. I ask for a 16 inch box.
