I saw a hot tub with a ground rod installed near its GFCI disconnect. I'm having trouble finding the violation. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

There is nothing illegal about driving a rod at the spa but it is not required. Just don't reground the neutral. If you have concrete it is somewhat redundant.

I hope they didn`t use the rod in place of the egc.I`ve been seeing some spas done with no neutral ran to the spa box just 6/2 with ground. Now the million dollar question.With the little neutral isolated the gfci is useless. If you use the ground wire or bond it to the ground bar its a viotation but safer for the homeowner because they`ll never agree to rewire the spa with the incurred cost.Or do you mention it if they wont rewire just leave it?

If you connected the neutral to the EGC I would expect the GFCI to trip as soon as it drew current. I suspect a lot of spas do not really have any 120v load. My heaters and pumps are all 240v.
