Recently red-tagged on a new-house construction because there was no GFCI protection for a receptacle on the wall opposite of a laundry-room sink. Inspector said all receptacles within 6' of the sink in any direction must have ground fault protection.

Not saying it isn't a good idea, but I couldn't find the article requiring it. 2002 NEC. Anyone have a reference?

BigJohn, it is a new wording in 210.8(A)(7) of the 05 NEC.

Quote
Laundry, utility, and wet bar sinks — where the receptacles are installed within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the outside edge of the sink

If you are still under 02 the inspector is wrong.

I knew it. And I had to drive thirty miles to correct that bogus violation. [Linked Image]

Thanks, gentlemen.
