Arch has provided detail for cove lighting of a dining rm.

Anyway, it sitting 6" back, inside a cove with a 3" opening. Personaly I think it a violation of 410.9. What do you think?

Spec for the flexible halogen strip lighting requires 2" clearance bulb to combustables. http://www.ardeelighting.com/downloads/1/clikstrip_catalog.pdf

I figure if the fixture were in a Al excursion track accessory, and wired so it could be taken out of the cove for relamping, or maint. (By leaving a length of conductor behind the fixture) The edge of the track has a lip that could be slid into a notch to help keep the fixture in place with a little pressure.

Tough call. What is adequate space?

Seems like the cove opening could be taller, or less wide to make relamping easier. Can you ask the Architect if any changes are possible without messing up the effect?

The tough part is that it is all but fully built! I was off the job for a while, and upon return the GC, was like... "How are you going to install these after I finish putting these parts up?" - "Wow Joe, good point!" We mocked up the cavity, and there is no way to install, or relamp. Unless I train a rat.

As it stands now, I'm thinking I use that track idea, and put a 1/4-20 threaded hole on each side to attach a rod to, as a means to place or remove the track from the cove.

Has anyone asked the customer what they wanted?
You might have framers and drywall folks in there anyway.
