Toronto, ON -- CSA International has released a consumer safety alert regarding the SAVINA six-outlet power strip or power bar imported by Good Friend Product Inc., also known as Happy Living Houseware Center, of Markham, Ont.

The power strips pose a serious threat of fire and electrical shock hazard to users and bear counterfeit (unauthorized) registered trademarks belonging to CSA International. The power strips are not certified by CSA International and consumers should stop using them immediately.

The power strips are packaged in a green/yellow outer paper sleeve marked on the front as "6-Outlet Power Strip" and the name "SAVINA - Italy". There is a counterfeit CSA trademark on the back of the sleeve. Although no other identification appears on the power strip enclosure, it can also be identified by the power supply cord, which has only two prongs and no ground pin.

Investigation by CSA International has identified numerous construction deficiencies such as a potential shock hazard (non-grounded power cord supplying six grounded receptacles), substandard wiring, poor workmanship and failure to comply with the blade retention requirements. CSA International is not aware of any injury or damage reports involving this product.

Good Friend Product Inc. imported these power strips from China and acted as wholesaler for two businesses that are currently out of business: Liquidations Plus, formerly located in the Warden Power Center in Toronto and Discount Zone, formerly in the Mid Town Mall in Oshawa, Ont. These power strips may also have been available through other distribution outlets not known to CSA International.

Consumers should immediately stop using these power strips and discard or return them to: Good Friend Product Inc. - also known as Happy Living Houseware Center -7010 Warden Ave., Unit 1, Markham, Ontario, Canada. L3R 5Y3, or phone 905-475-6511.
