Folks,

Not sure if this is a stupid question!

I was using a metal "fish" line to run a TV cable through the wall. I was using the path of an existing electrical wire (circuit was off!) and "chaffed" against the wire a bunch of times. I can't see any obvious breaks but certain parts of the wire looked worn.

Any danger here? Do I need to repalce the wire? I am not sure how strong standard electrical wire is - It looks like a 1/2 diameter.

Please post - thanks - jg1234

Look at the NEC 820-52.I think it prohibits the running of the power cable and coax cable close to each other.I suppose they are worried about insulation breakdown. When I wire a house I am careful to keep a min 2in separation so the inspector won't have any gripe.
If any of the power cable insulation has been nicked it needs to be replaced/repaired to prevent arcing/breakdown.
