Got a service call last week. Westminister High School Gymnasium. Some coach thought it would be a good idea to change out the 6 hour timer switch (for the 30- 400watt MH high bays) with the Clapper (u know clap on/ clap off). Well during a game that night, when everyone applauded... (u can probally guess what happened). The contactors went bezerk! and caught fire.

Skipr: Sounds like a pretty good service call for you. Must have been hilarious at the time...but now the fun's over. I hope that coach had some snappy answers for screwing around with something he had no business getting into [Linked Image].

Sounds like the coach was a real fan of Tim Taylor (Home Improvement).

Yet, on a more serious note.... The latest energy codes would have those lights on a programmable timer, with the manual bypass limited to operating the lights for a maximum of two hours.

That, of course, leads to the following scenario. The school has such a good team, it gets into the playoffs. Since playoff games are not part of the schedule, they are not programmed into the timer. Come playoff day, the lights are switched on manually.
The game goes into overtime. Just as the tie-breaking score is made...CLUNK.... and off go the lights. Being HID, everyone (including the TV networks) gets to wait 20 minutes for them to re-strike.

Progress! Gotta love it! [Linked Image]

If M.J. was able to win the NBA final with the flu, those boys should've been able to play with the clap.

We had that problem with the theatre dimmers at my high school. We always forgot to disable the 8pm "shutdown the dimmer rack" command, and lo and behold it did it every rehearsal. Somehow, though, we remembered to turn it off for actual shows. The only saving grace is that it only took it two-ish minutes to re-start (it had a self-test it ran at start-up).
