Theres a good amount of handymen advertising electrical work on Craigslist so I came up with an idea. If you "flag" a post and enough people do it the post gets deleted. "flagging" just requires one click and theres no need to register.

I am not licensed and I do not do sidework so this has nothing to do with competition. Below are some links, just click "prohibited" on the top right of the page. These are only the postings in my area if this works I think we should all search our own areas and post the links.

In California, that is OK! So long as the job total doesn't exceed $500, which is pretty hard to do. (i.e. stay under that limit.)

I did it for a time before I got my license for side-work. Now I couldn't be bothered with a job that small. (Here Fido, go get that roll of dimes...) Although I currently work for someone else, I also like week-ends and nights to myself.

And your right, not posting a license # with that would violate the avertising rules of the CSLB. So would advertising of being bonded....

This guy has ads for all over California. Big service area. Your right $500 handyman exemption, but must not be part of a larger job, need a permit, ect. Now in California you have to be licensed electrician to work for someone else. Talked to a local handyperson. Has over 30 years experience, about 32 years old. "Oh you have to drive ground rods, I just hook it the ground to the nearest hose bib, 25 ohms ? " Never mind. Keeps me busy.

Here is the list for the Boston area.
These are contractors, painters, so called licensed electricians, apprentices, moonlighters, one guy for $20/hr, septic tank inspector, handyman, ripoff artists and other undercutters.

Some list under multiple names with the same email and phone numbers.

In MA if you advertise, you must include your license number. Your license must have your business name on it.

Most of these people don't even give their names.

Some say licensed and insured. Can't verify any licenses without the numbers.

It's a long list.
Let's get rid of these also.

Some of these are for same guys (multiple ads). I can only assume they are getting some work from these ads. I would say out of this - partial - list, there are only about 8 ppl....so far.

Looks to me since NJ required home repair contractors to get a licence from the state .. they all now think they can contract in any building trade..

Is there anyway to forward the handymen/electrician posts to the state board of electrical contractors ?

If so .. they will be mighty busy shutting them down ..and issueing fines. I would bet the plumbing board would be busy also.

I've called a few of them and left "my" number ~ 973-504-6410.
I can just imagine thier faces when they return the call only to discover THEY have just contacted the Board to do some unlicensed work.
