Expect to sit at a large table with about 12 interviewers each asking questions.

While this may (or may not) score some brownie-points, I can't imagine that most interviewees are honestly expected to know much union history, are they?

No, they usually just ask questions that pertain to your previous employment. They will teach you a little bit about union history in your first year and throughout your apprenticeship.

They will ask you to tell them what you did in certain situations and how you handled others.

It really isn't that bad as long as you are even a little out-going. If not then find a way to let loosen up and go with the flow.

Think about why you want to be an electrician. That one is always asked. A dare, cuz of the money, my parents told me to get a job, or the court ordered me to apply, are not the right answers. I would mention mechanical abilities and being able to use tools if applicable. Remove facial piercings. They shouldn't matter but they do.

"Bring some barbecue sauce with you because the'll grill you."

At least around here, the IBEW has a thing for BBQ's, it is a major portion of their annual events. Bringing sauce could make or break you - depending on flavor and prefferance....

Be prepared to answer questions w/o hesitation (same goes for any interview).

Have an answer for this gem (that seems to asked by a lot of employers - IBEW or otherwise):
WHY do you want to be an electrician?

HINT:
Your answer should include...

- I like to be wired
etc

Seriously, that question will probably be asked.

Dress nice - but a tie might be overkill.

This is good advice. Dress casual, but comfortable. No one will be impressed if you show up in a suit. This is not a suit and tie job.

I can scan the sheet they gave me before I went for my interview. It doesn't have much useful information on it, but it may help you some. Let me know if you can use it.

Tell them that Black and White make Light and that if you add a red wire you can make magic things happen to a fancy switch.

They will be highly impressed with you and probably make you a foreman..
