What are the best methods and equipment for finding a break in an underground cable. I have one that is over 3000' long that is used for controlling a pumping station.
Thanks in advance.

I just bumped Rodalco's thread,"Cable Fault Location", up for you. Both faults and opens cause energy to be reflected back from the points of impedance change.

Need to know what type of cable it is,
screened or single core, 3 core armoured ?and what type of fault?

safety. [Linked Image] is the cable isolated from the supply?
Are the phases continuous?
Insulation Phase to Ground?
Insulation Phase to Phase?
Insulation screen to earth?
what voltage level is the cable used at
e.g. 400 volts, 11 kV.
