Does anyone have any experience with Ridgid brand tools found at the Home Depot? I am about to purchase a new set of power tools and these seems to be the perfect mix between quality and price, plus a lifetime guarantee.

Just wanted to get some feedback from anyone who has used them. Thanks!

I don't know about Rigid tools bought at "Home Depot", but I have been using Rigid tools for years. What can I tell you other than they are great. But I have no experience with any of their cordless stuff, just threading tools and so forth.

I have both DeWalt and Rigid 18V drills. I think the Rigid is the better buy and it definitely has the power. I am very happy with mine.

A buddy and I work together on lots of jobs. I was in a pinch and could only afford the Ryobi brand from Home Depot. He on the other hand had DeWalt, which he would always remind me of. He went through two drills to my one. Now DeWalt did make good on them. He now has the Ridgid set your speaking of and it is great. Lots of torque and the new charger handles two batteries an the same time which is a benefit also. If you can afford it get it, you'll find it to be a wise dicision.

Watch out for the chargers if youre working in a lot of dusty areas, the chargers have built in fans and tend to draw a lot of dust in and clog.

Seems to me DeWalt has more options/accessories and more tools in general to choose from. But the lifetime guarantee from Ridgid is very nice.

One thing I did notice yesterday when using a friends 18V Ridgid drill was the weight. Seems much heavier than it needs to be.

For what its worth, I would go with the Ridgid. Where I worked we went through a lot of Dewalt drills and the Ridgid seemed to last longer.

I know my next set of power tools are going to be Ridgid. Right now, I have a 19.2V Craftsman (run and hides under bed while others throw rocks at him) that REALLY gets the job done. Not a single complaint or trouble from this drill for the past 2 years (same batteries too), and it has enough torque to get through just about anything. But, definitely going for an upgrade next.

Your Craftsman is a Ryobi.

Just my opinion but Rigid cordless tools are pure crap! Three of the other journeyman(in my company) bought them because of the lifetime warranty and all three of them have had nothing but problems. Drills breaking, I broke one of the sawzalls by cutting a 1/2 pipe. The other guys batteries and charger are both fried. I would rather have black and decker. As for the life time warranty its great if you can wait three months to get your tools back when they break, and believe me they will.

Put my vote down for DeWalt. I've sung the praises of this brand many times on this BB for their cordless tools.

I will say it again, my dewalt cordless 18V drill/sawzall/flashlight have been throroughly used and abused and just keeps going and going. If and when it quits, I won't hesitate for one second to buy another.

Exactly what Sandro said. I have had ZERO problems with my 18v Dewalt drill in the year and a half that I have owned it, using it frequently.

Just realize, Black & Decker owns DeWalt, Porter-Cable, Delta power tools, and Emglo compressors.


BTW, Milwaukee and Ryobi share the same parent company too.

I had a Rigid 18V cordless drill, and I never had a problem with it (that is until the day it walked from a jobsite, mainly due to my being a dumbass) It is a bit heavier than a DeWalt, but it has about the same balance feel as a Milwaukee. The torque is good, and the dual charger (in 1/2 hour no less) is a great bonus! And as odd as it sounds, the rubber base on the battery is a nice touch.
