buzzlectric,
Do you have to have a contractors license? How do you go about getting it? Could you get enough work to live on your small business? Is there work in the winter? I want to keep a small elec business like I do here in AZ. Wonder if my license is any good in Iowa? :-)

It is interesting that the states with powerful unions don't seem to license electricians. Redundant I suppose.

Unions are weak in AZ but do have licensing.

Finished a cinema install in Des Moines area a while back (Jordan Creek).

All the contractors there were great, a pleasure to work with and most said they were quite busy most of the year.

Hope you don't mind thunderstorms, though...it was a daily thing while I was there. Got some great pics of "beaver tail" clouds.

Yeah, it is a very nice area. The mall the cinemas are in is huge, they have a lake(!) with paddleboats, lots of high-end stores and more.

The cinema is 20 screens, all stadium seating, Dolby Digital in all houses and THX certified. Awesome picture and sound. I built all the sound racks locally, they were shipped to the site then I flew out and helped with the installation.

I had joked with the vendor I contracted with that I wanted to stay and run the theatre!! (I'm originally from Ohio and like the "midwest" scene.)
