fix...
whip together a quick deer sling out of NM and a few rags for a shoulder cushion, attach pvc via bell end by way of rubber bungee for quick connect/disconnect. Drag over triplex, hands free to pick up and place triplex. Glue on one piece on @ a time.

I'm glad that I am not the only one who works for a living!! Way to go!! My helper and I just did a similar job with 100ft of two 500mcm and one 350 for a 400amp service. We slipped the 3" pvc over it. Didn't even think of the sling idea. Thats a good one.

Glad to be here. I have been reading the forums for a long time and I have learned a lot from everyone. I decided to quit being lazy and participate.

Don,
i'm aware of 300-18(a) , and would comment that the intent is for the conductors protection, which i am actually taking better care of here, than if i were to set up pulling stations etc.

Sparky,
And how are we supposed to pull out the conductors and replace them if needed at a later time. If you can't pull them in the first time without damage, you can't repull them without damage. One of the reasons for 300-18(a) if the ability to make future changes or repairs.

Don,
It seems to me that with the proper(expensive) equipment, this pull would have been able to be accomplished. Sparky just didn't have the equipment. The next guy may need it regardless of how it was originally installed.
Sparky,
Why not direct-bury?
BTW,
How often should pull boxes be installed?

Sparky;
500 feet you say, how do you pull it, I mean after the 'Deer-sling', do you use a Tow-motor or a pick-up with 4 x 4 ?

Don, this is true. However the utilities engineers here would allow me to install this @ over 600', no UG boxes at all, and they engineered it! The answer is, you dig it up again. Please realize that I am competing with those that have buried service laterals 12" deep in sewer pipe here,etc, etc ( many stories..) None of this ever gets an inspector, and the utilities regularly will hook up time bombs for any of the Clampet clan.
Am I any more guilty in the real world than those who would hide behind 90-4?

Sparky,
Why not direct-bury?

Redsy;
They did away with direct burial, not that it stops homeowners, excavators, etc here.
And no, I don't have the equipment, i'm one man, one van feedin'the fam,that's it. If i don't say so myself, i think i've done a quality job, I use direct burial wire in pipe, so it'll probably outlive me.

do you use a Tow-motor or a pick-up with 4 x 4 ?
Well Hi motor-T ! I am 'sleeving' pipe over wire here, the 'deer sling' allows my hands free to guide the wire into the pvc. There was absolutely not a single nick in this install, more than i can say for other cajun methods i have seen, including a van roof rack being torn off. I have been on crews that have the right equipment, and still seen conductor damage done.

Oh well!, guess i'll call the burn center, figured i'd get the heat for this thread. But hey, gimme some credit here, how many of you guys would attempt this alone?

now where's those done's pills????

Sparky, I'm not going to flame you. Heck being a 1 man operation myself I compliment you on your ingenuity and care. Besides at my "night job" they once pulled a run into conduit with a forklift!!!, that was before I got there and this is a large company that could afford the proper equipment but did not want to spend the money for it when many forklifts were available to use. I'll go get some burn creme for you if needed.
