Is it a common practice to tie up a fixture on the trim that is designed to hang over a table?
I just heard about a law suit because the dining room fixture was nose height and some woman walked into it when they were moving in.
It goes on but you get the picture.

Is it a normal practice to temporarily tie up a fixture that is designed to hang lower?

There is a simple thing called "Watch where you are walking" too.

You'll probably get sued for tying up too though.

Ah, Mike, the good ol' British-Anzac grin-and-bear it mentality. Cut my hand off by an act of gross negligence? Never mind! I've got another one!! [Linked Image]

Exactly Alan, [Linked Image]
All we seem to hear these days is "It's not my fault". [Linked Image]

Shoot, just did one the other day where the HO left a note: "Please leave enough slack so I can put the chandelier over my dining room table." Kinda difficult for me to gauge since there wasn't any furniture in the house and this was a big darn room. [Linked Image]
Already low ceilings (7') left that fixture so low it's the first chandelier I've ever seen that someone could trip over. [Linked Image]

John, I always place them at 66" AFF which I thought was standard. If the place is empty I tie it up with an S hook, because I'm afraid someone will run into it, like myself, and break it.

Clients ask me how high it should hang. I tell them it's just right when it hits me in the forehead.

My last vist it my local Ikea store revealed the "ideal" height for a lamp over a dining room table is 55cm.

Who knew?

55cm??? (21.6")
It sounds about a meter off. are you sure it wasn't 55" (139cm)

Let's hope she and her lawyer get hit by a bus on the way to the courtroom.

It's my company policy to tie up any fixture wich would normally hang under 7'.

So basicly all of them except for foyer lights.

We hang all dining and breakfast fixtures at 66" AFF also. We always raise them up to keep people from walking into them and to keep the flooring guys from wacking them when they walk through with rolls of carpet.
