OK we beat up the plumbers for making too much money. (perhaps unfairly)
Now what job is the one that there isn't enough money on the planet to get you to do?

I say the guys who hot mop roofs.

Climb into a septic tank to replace broken pumps

Yeah the hot mop roof job looks tough.

I usually watch the asphalt paving crews and say no way.

Laid off in winter (this area) worked like dogs when not laid off, working in the blazing sun or stuck working nights for highway jobs. Getting hit by cars when working on streets.

No, not for me.

Garbage man.

Definitely....garbage man.

Especially in the summer. PFEWWW!!!!!

New York City does pay its garbage men VERY well.

You'd think that what basically is unskilled labour (walking behind a truck and flinging dripping bags full of waste into the back) would just pay minimum wage....but nope. Sanitation workers also get early retirement benefits.

Then again, they have to be out in all weather. Beating sun & humid weather (you know how rotting trash starts diffusing its particular aroma in that environment); Freezing cold and snow.

Repeated bending and twisting as you fling those heavy garbage cans and bags into the back of the truck....

I'm a wimp, I guess.

In no particular order:

1. The President of the US.
2. An executioner
3. Coroner

They have a TV show about this called "Dirty Jobs" on Discovery last night.

Had this guy crawling around in an SF sewer with roaches raining from above. (But finished with him doing demo on a construction site, which some find kinda fun!)

My answer:
Embalmer! I would be a coroner over an embalmer any day, as it would lend some sort of scientific merit to handling the dead. The element of ersatz that is required to dress and put make-up on dead bodies is too much for me.

In the distant future, (Knock on wood) I will be cremated!

Any job that would require me to go to the same place and sit in a cubicle in front of a computer screen day after day.

(edited: changed behind to in front of)

CV,
I'm with you mate.
I've been a "climber" since I was 3-4 years old I used to climb everything within sight, trees, you name it, I was up a 70ft Macrocarpra Tree once and some idiot called the Fire Brigade, they thought I was Autistic.
Hieghts have never been a problem, though.

Kids aren't allowed to climb anything higher than steps now because of Health and Safety Laws.
Now being a Line worker, I love being up on the highest of poles, 66kV ones are cool.
What a nasty society we live in. [Linked Image]

I don't mind heights either.

When I worked for BT at the satellite station I kind of liked climbing up into the equipment cabin right behind the feedhorn. On the (frequent) foggy mornings in that part of the world, it was almost surreal to look out and barely be able to see the ground. Kind of like flying above the clouds in a plane.

There's a TV show running here at the moment called "The Worst Jobs in History."

Take your pick from the various eras on offer here. There are some real doozies! [Linked Image]

My 'worst job' has to be those guys who go round unblocking domestic-sewerage drains. Just last night on tv there was a pair of these 'erberts, happily rodding out a gully brimming over with all sorts of human waste with a high pressure hose, and covered in it from head to foot! I buggered off to my office to listen to the BBC. I just couldn't watch any more. Yuk! Yuk! YUK!
