Can anyone recommend a good tester to find the wire break? I heard there is one tester that can measure the distance in ft where the break is. Thank you.

I'm not sure, but isn't the tool you're looking for called a Time Domain Reflectometer?

That might help in a web search.

I'm still in the caveman era, that is, I use a tone tracer and a signal thrower... I figure where the signal ends, so does the continuity of the conductor... [Linked Image]

A TDR (time domain reflectometer) is definately a tool that will give you distance to the fault. It will not only tell you opens and shorts but also any high resistance faults or poor connections.

Megger makes some really nice ones!

It basically sends a pulse down the line and times how long any portion takes to come back (any change in the conductor will reflect some of the pulse back)!
