For new construction we get about $85. Maybe it's on the low side. Cutting in remodels $100-120. Depends if it's an open attic, or 1st floor with wire fishing. With many cans in a room we go on the lower side. People don't understand it can be hard to drill and fish a few can to the 4 corners of the room. But if the cans are spaced 3-4' apart it's not as bad (and more money).

For cutting in cans we also charge $60-75 each swiitch leg we need to run from the switch to the cieling.

We also use Juno cans. They are not cheap but they are reasonable quality. I tell the customer that those off brand trims the other guy might use discolor over time. It helps if they have an existing yellow trim you can point to. Then I show them mine and say see it's not cheap plastic. Also tell them how the cheaper cans are not air tite (if it matters in the case) and yours are which makes them more energy efficent and the house less drafty.

Mabe tell them that you can layout the cans better than the outer person and how that will make a differance. Tell the there could be a differance in amount of wall damage between you.

Like someone elce said about loosing a sale "It's not that your price is too high, it's because you failed to sell the customer".

You are not to high...your account is to cheap.

I get $90 a unit new work...Halo H5ICAT with 5001P trim and a halogen par30 75 watt longneck bulb.This is about $25 to $30 dollars material(my cost).

my company charges 125 new construction 6" can and 300 for remodel can 6" or 4". I think it is a little high but for the most part we do get that price, so I guess its not that high since most people pay it.

I thought I bring you guy's up to date. my builder is now supplying his own recess light's for every job we do.So my new quiestion is how much do you charge? My charge is 40.00 just for the light. this is in a drop ceiling.

Builder supplied you can charge what ever you normaly get for an opening. I would charge more because the GC is cutting into your proffit. Make sure he gets the trims and bulbs too. Also depends on the cieling hight. For some drywall cielings I would figure more just for layout time.

If he supplies the fixtures he should also cover the warranty for them.

Thank's guy's for the input. Builder know's he will have to warranty them. Im hope with all the work we do and them having to run around supplying fixtures they will realize it is not just the cost of a light.

I have stared useing a laser to shoot the lid
it cuts my layout time in half
and pays for itself in no time
