I have really bad luck with dimmers failing. Lately I've had my customers buy them and I tell them I'm only responsible for the installation, not their dimmer. Can any of you suggest a good reliable dimmer?

Dimmers usualy don't burn out by themselves. The problem is caused when bulbs burn out they often short (that's the flash you see) and they take out the dimmer. Maybe some dimmers are better in this respect but I've never noticed any.

I've installed hundreds maybe a thousand in the past five years and have only been called back on a couple. I mainly use Lutron "Diva" dimmers.

We use Lutron Ariadni and Diva dimmers mainly. No problems with failure. THe only problem we get is with heat from the Ariadni dimmers, Lutron say no problem, but the customer don't like that answer. Lutron says 150 degrees above room temp is safe and normal and to replace the plate screws with nylon to reduce the feel of the heat.
