I want to purchase a megger (never owned one) without breaking the bank. Primary use would be motor troubleshooting. Maybe even an older model from Ebay? Any advice appreciated.

I have an analog type that works very well. Acurare readings with a number value. Though, it seems a little more suited to bench work than in the field or on a plant floor where it is more subjected to being bumped around. I believe this is about a 100$ model.

I have seen the LED type, with the strip of maybe 10 LED's that give you a more general indication (Good, Not So Good, Bad). I think these are around 40$, but seem as if they may be better suited to slightly rougher handling, than the more delicate sweep dial type. (I would like to have one of these for "on the floor".

I have a fluke 1520.

Have used it for two years and it works like a charm. If someone thinks thats expensive check out the other fluke megger on grainger.com along with the other brands.
As for using it on the shop floor, its handheld with a strap on the back to strap it to your hand.

In my case it has paid for itself many times over. High horsepower motors can be expensive.

You can sure pay a dollar or two for a Megger these days, the one I bought a few years back, (an AVO/Megger) cost me just shy of NZ$800.
I'd personally be a tad wary of buying test equipment off of eBay, you don't know how well it's been looked after in the past.
At least if it's new, you'll get some sort of a warranty with it.
