stan,

It's going to depend on the type of Fixture and other circumstances - height etc. I would just figure how long it would take, add your travel time and multiply times your Hourly rate.

You should also make it clear that your price does not include repairing wirng that has been damaged by heat. A lot of old fixtures were way overlamped & many time the insulation on the wires in the ceiling box will crumble right off as soon as you disturb it.

Might also inquire as to what type of fixture it is. Many ceiling hung fixtures around here don't come assembled. Especially the chandelier type. You have to sit there and put on the dangly doogi-mibobs for the better part of an hour or more before you even start attaching the chain and fixture wire. We include language that if the fixture isn't assembled and ready to hang, there's an extra hourly charge

for changing fixtures i charge T&M. Too many times you find problems fixing them cost you time and money. let the customer pay for the work you do. if the customer wants to buy the fixtures -let them -just charge them for the time to assemble the fixtures. Make it clear that the understand thatT&M means no freebees. unless you feel like giving away your work.

i'm in the process of replacing 2 rows of fluoresent fixtures (14 fixtures total)and i usually charge .5 hr./fix to remove the old ones and 1 hr/fix to install the new ones plus material costs. no fix assy costs included. also you need to consider moving objects that might be in the way i.e. furniture, storage racks etc. ken m
