I did a search on the site but didn't really find an answer. I need to run electricity to a barn 70 feet from my house. The electrician suggested I update my service from 100 amp fuses to 200 amp circuit breakers. The 200 amp panels I see would require me to remove a portion of a brick wall in my basement to fit the panel in. Is there a source for 200 amp panels that are more of a square shape, about 24x28"?
Would running an entire seperate service to the barn be an option cost-wise? Thanks for any info.

There are many options. Have you considered installing the 200 amp main service panel outdoors, then feeding the barn with one 100 amp feeder and the basement 100 amp panel with another feeder? Many manufacturers make an all-in-one meter-base and two main breaker units.
As far as installing a separate service to the barn, check with the power company and the AHJ, many town have special rules for separate metering.

Thanks Earl
The panel would be outside? This would require some sort of shelter? Is there a link to a manufacturer of the panel you are talking about? What is "AHJ"?
