Gentlemen:
I'm trying to avoid stealing Joe's thread on unlic. work.......so....

Anyone that needs CEU's for NJ Lic Renewal, if any of you have suggestions for subjects, please respond.

THE ADDED 24 hours are for "ANY TRADE RELATED subjects, the original 10 are 1 LAW, 9 NEC Changes.

Yes, there's a lot of 'mail' offers for classes; and NONE are free ($)

Just so everyone is aware, ALL the courses have to be approved by the Board before any course offering can be solicited. I know one instructor who has plenty of courses available, if he can get attendance to cover expenses & his time.

John,

I also write in at the end of every code class that I get, I would like to see some classes on the "Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 wiring" covered under section 725 of the NEC. Also I wanted to take the course on Neon and Sign wiring.

harold,
"classes on the "Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 wiring" covered under section 725 of the NEC."
Good pick.

Iwire, noted he pays around $125 for his hours in MA. not bad. I was receiving mail outs with $600 and $700 fees for CEU,s.
I would not mind paying our inspectors for instruction, they know the problems and areas that need improvement.
I am one of those old timers, however I have always stayed current, I am surrounded by the young ones, that will not let me slide, They give me a daily work out. We spend time to review each job, and code questions are addressed. This way of operating, helps everyone.

I taught a class today on "common residential violations of the NEC" that was focused towards inspectors. I could easily have manipulated the material to gear it towards installers. It was a pretty good success.

Ryan_J,

Three of our credit hours, should be with our local inspectors, in the areas where we do most of our work. This would provide a way to communicate their concerns directly to contractors working in their area. Time well spent, both contractor and inspector would benifit.

CEUs aren't required in my immediate area yet, but they are in the next county.

I'm a member of a local Contractor's Association. The Inspectors in our area are also members. One agency recently gave a presentation similar to Ryan's course topic. They did it right at the meetings (starting an hour early) for those who were interested and broke it up over several meetings.

It was informative, and gave the Inspectors a way to point out many of the common problems and violations they see. It was free, and counted as CEUs for those that needed them.

LK: I couldn't agree more. It is very benificial to all parties involved.

LK, WOW, I might very well change my tune at those prices.

I see your view much clearer now.

The last time I paid entirely myself was about $125, that would be about 6 or 7 years ago.

Since then the company I work for has provided it for free at our shop (they hired an accredited teacher) or they have subsidized it so that only $50.00 came out of my check.

I will consider myself lucky. [Linked Image]

Les/Harold:

If you guys are interested, another AHJ, thru his association has a CE course.....

Low Voltage, NMC, NEON, etc.....he has approval for about 75 course topics, and the courses will be scheduled based on interest/attendance. Rates??? I'll have to find out.

If you guys want a contact name/number get back to me e-mail, or my cell......

PS: Depending on the interest, I may be involved on a few subjects, but this is not my gig.

Got to catch you two guys for coffee/lunch or a cold one......

Les & Everyone:

BTW, I get the same mailers that you are talking about, and yes, some of the fees seem "high".

24 hours.....$15 per hr....$ 360.00 total, hmmmm.....

10 hr used to run me $150/$175 which included lunch & a lot of coffee. I guess Bob (Iwire) is getting a bargain!!
