I think we may have touched on this subject before, but it came up in conversation earlier today.

I've seen exit signs in America with both red and green lettering. I can't remember whether a specific color was all in one town or even one state, so are there local codes which specify which color is to be used?

Is there some other reason, e.g. red for exit corridors and green for the actual exit doors?

Or is it just a case of "Take your pick" ?

In my area ir is a matter of preference. No local code restrictions.

I have worked in jurisdictions where it was a requirement of the local Fire Marshall. I can't remember which ones off hand. It usually is not an issue.

I'm a little confused over the ADA regs that seem to apply audio/visual notification to the deaf/blind populance here...what does NFPA 72 say?

A point for you to ponder though: Now that electrical and building codes are moving toward "international" versions, do you see symbolic signs eventually replacing simple "EXIT" signs in America?
