can someone recommend a flanged inlet for use on residential portable generator installations (or alternate solution). right now i need a couple for 4w 20A. so far i found the 50A variety at grainger for $100 up, not including matching connector.

this is the part of residential generator jobs i dislike. my suppliers all have transfer switches and thats about it.

i did a search but didnt see anything on this. thanks.

What you are looking for is a NEMA L14-20 flanged inlet.

L for locking, 14 for 120/250 4 wire, 20 for ampacity.

Ask for this at any large supply house, they can order it.

No L14-20 is cheap but certainly you can beat $100.00

All manufactures use the NEMA designations.

A 15 amp duplex at a house would be a NEMA 5-15R.

5 for 120 volt 3 wire, 15 for ampacity and R for receptacle.

Here are some Leviton part numbers.

L14-20 120/250 20 amps

Leviton number 2415 for a Flanged inlet

Leviton number 2413 for a matching cord cap.

But any manufacturer's NEMA inlets will fit any other manufacturer's NEMA cord cap.

I found a non brand name L14-20 flanged inlet for $21.00 by doing a Google search.

thanks iwire. sounds like what i need. i'll also check to see if they make an enclosure with an inlet for this purpose. the homeowners' generator came with an enclosed indoor version.

Are you're talking about relocating the inlet flush plug on a Gen-Tran type panel, kind of like the one in the post above just L14-20?

that may be what i need but i'm not familiar with that particular one. its priced right for sure.

i have been buying 200A GE tranfer switches and then piecing together an enclosed, flanged inlet for the generator cord using the connectors mentioned above.

the job i am doing now has an enclosed inlet that came with the generator, which will be installed at its location. most generators do not come with them however and i havent found a local supplier for them yet.

i called them and it is just what i've been needing. they're sending a catalog and their prices cant be beat. thanks everyone.
