Good morning, I was wondering if any of yall have been to any Modicon Training classes. Mostly the plant electricians here, I suppose, but I know some of yall program and troubleshoot these systems.

My boss is wanting to send me to the Modicon classes, I think in Atlanta, and I just wondered what do they take for granted that you know when you show up? What books should I get to help me out before I get into this. I have alot of free time on the net at work, anywhere in particular I should go?

We just installed a SCADA system at the H20 plant and it appears that I'm the only one here with any electrical experience. So I get to go. Thanks Joe

Hello Joe

Why don't you tell us a little more about your electrical backround, education, time/experience and then you can get a more relistic answer.

20 years electrical, residential, commercial, industrial all mixed. More in industrial than anything. Knowledge of three phase, 120-208-240-277/480 installation and control.
13 years troublshooting on siemans plc system, 3 years allen-bradley slc 500's,

1 year installation with
Device Net hardware, landing inputs and outputs, pressure trans, RTD's, limit switches, Mostly installation and maintenance, finding bad fuses, switches,

No formal electrical schoolng of any sort. No programming experience. I can read schematics, and understand the concept of ladder logic, I have spent some time on the plc.ne site, and used the plc tutor a bit.

But it seems like a golden opportunity to get some formal training in this type of control equipment, and I just wanted to be as prepared as possible.

Thanks Joe

Which Modicon class? Their entry level hardware classes assume you know control systems and/or ladder logic, but nothing about Modicon. Their programming classes really don't care about the hardware at all, just control system methodology.
