Opened up year old roof top A/C unit on a new building to find a crookedly mounted and NEW 150a breaker with #3 wire on the line side and about 6 wires in each load side terminals? Nameplate values call for a 100a brk and fla is 82a 600v .Back in the mechanical room we find the line side fused at 125a with #3 wire .The unit symptoms are intermittent tripping of the 150a in unit breaker.Other then the horrid wiring around this breaker the unit is factory and seems to be running well.I don't know what to think. Did someone swipe the splitters and switch breakers? Did it come from the factory like this ? I was working on it with a refrigeration mechanic and tightened all the terminal screws ect and now it has not tripped since. The whole installation looks very unique to say the least.

Frank,
To be honest, I wouldn't think that a factory made unit would be as rough as that, they have to pass Quality Control examinations before they leave the factory.
I'd say some else has "had a go at it" since it was installed.
But them six wires in each of the load-side terminals sound a bit suspect, to say the least!. [Linked Image]
