How do you guy's run your service cable for a duplex apartment? Each apt load will require 100a. Is the general procedure to run 200a service cable from taps into 200a service disconnects and then into two 100a meter sockets? How do different area's of the country do it?? Thanks

If this is an apartment building with a first and second floor, it's a single riser into a two gang meter fitting (pan), then from each meter to the separate panels.

Or are these dwellings side by side and just share a common wall between them, but have their own property lines. If this was the case I would expect a seperate rise on each side of the building and a single gang meter on each separately owned property.

Meter first then 2g meter base then disconnect. Some power co will allow meter bases with disconnects built in. Makes it real nice.

Russ, What type of meter socket do you bring the 200 amp service cable into? Do you use two 200amp sockets ganged together or two 100amp meter sockets ganged (or nippled) together? Out of meters to panel with 100a se cable for both.

The way we do it is to bring the 4/0 al cable into a double 100 amp meter base. the actual set-up has three (3) actual sections the middle section is a blank cover under which is the bus for the two meter sockets the incoming cable is landed in this middle section, there are three lugs to land to.
then from each meter section No.2 seu cable is run to either a disco or a service panel.

Shinkman,- A 2 gang meter socket, base, or pan is one continuous assembly, as wocolt has explained, for 2 meters. Where in P.A. are you?, PP&L territory ?

Yes it is a complete assembly especially for 2-single-dwelling units or apartments.
As I said the ones I like have actually three spaces but they do make them with only two where one end is a bit larger for the service conductors to enter.
They are also known as a '2-banger' or double gang meter base.
Siemens also makes them with the disconnects/Main breaker already installed.

Some areas require a house meter along with the meters per apt. If it's rented apt. with a common egress then the common hallways, basement, outside lights and smokes have to be on a house meter--- 3-gang meter bank, can get them with breakers and run to each unit with an MLO. Electricians have their prefernces on this. Hope this helps.
