This appliance call for a 15 amp dedicated circuit but comes with a Nema 6-20 cord cap, would this not create a code violation by installing a Nema 6-20 on a 15 amp circuit or do I have it backwards? I know a single 15 amp receptacle cannot be installed on a dedicated 20 amp circuit but what about the other way around?

My guess this was written somewhere in the far east where they are not really that familiar with NEMA and the NEC. You are correct that this is an impossible thing to do legally.

Big B,
What sort of equipment is this?
It almost has dedicated circuit written all over it.
Could you permanently wire it or does it need to be portable?
Just asking for a friend.

Hi Trumpy,

It is a built in microwave oven. It could be hard wired but I am pretty sure cutting off the cord cap will void the warranty and the UL listing.

The best advice I can think of is have a talk with the AHJ. Then again, is it 'listed'?
