I am new to this forum, so forgive me if my verbiage is juvenile. I am building an art installation for Earth day this year that will be featured at an Art/ Music Festival. I am building a geodesic sphere and looking to make the majority of the project from scraps or pieces that were bound for the trash. I have researched a small amount of information about EMT and it seems to be the best material for this project. I have Home depot in my pocket if I can't find the appropriate amount. My question to everyone in the Electric world is where is the best place to find scrap EMT? Does anyone have some they need taken off their hands? I will be making trips to my local salvage yards etc. Any help on the subject is appreciated. I begin building in March

Most of the EMT scrap that you would find in a junkyard will very likely be bent, kinked or otherwise smashed up.
If Home Depot doesn't carry enough for your needs they must be pretty extensive.
In that case your best bet might be to approach one of the EMT manufacturers and see if they would donate (or sell very cheaply) some of their rejected product from the manufacturing process.

The stuff is really pretty cheap if you buy it at an electrical supplier a bundle at a time. Ask them nice with a good story and they may give you the contractor discount. Offer them an ad on the project. "Materials donated by XYZ electric" sort of thing and you might get it for free particularly if they have some that was damaged.

As Greg said your best bet may be an electrical supply house. EMT is not all that expensive, until you get to 1-1/4” and up. A ‘local’ supply house may even be agreeable to ‘donations’, a lot easier than dealing with corporate size businesses.

You could also check with any local electrical contractors, but ‘scrap’ EMT is usually just that.

I assume you have already contacted the commercial electrical contractors in your area ?

It does sound interesting but it is just a geometry and welding/brazing trick.
If someone has the connectors it would just be a tinker toy trick. Buckminster Fuller has really done all of the geometry for you and I think I have seen the connectors before.

Wouldn't buying new EMT(or even using new EMT) and turning it into art be against the idea of Earth Day? Shouldn't this project be done with reused/repurposed materials?

All of the welding necessary to put the little scraps of EMT electricians throw away together would hurt the environment than making it new.
