I replaced an old Federal Stab Lock
circuit breaker panel with one made
by Square D. I've heard bad things about
FP stab locks. Like failing to trip
on overloads (which is the main point
of circuit breakers). My father built
and wired this house back in the mid
1950s, and at the time worked as an
accountant for Federal in Newark NJ
IIRC. So he got from there a bunch of
breakers and panels, one of which was
a stab lock. Never had a problem, but
never had an overload either.
Dispite the above, I've heard that there
is a demand for used stab lock breakers.
Anyone want them? I have no way to
test them in a manner that would satisfy
UL, so they'd be as is no guarentee.
Catalog numbers look like: Stab lok 015
(1 pole breaker), Stab lok cat no 20
1 pole breaker, issue no AY44. Another
is cat no 020. These all say "Federal
Electric Products Company, Newark NJ USA"
Not "Federal Pacific". There are nine of
these that came out of the old panel, and
some more in a box I saw some time ago
in the attic. These all date back to
the 50's. There's also a few that say
"American" that are only a few years old.
A double pole 30A, and a single pole 20A.
There's also the panel with 12 spaces,
has copper buss bars.
Maybe someone wants this stuff to show
trainees what Federal stab locks look
like?
