what is the hourly or job cost to put in new residential panel just a swap out 200amp to 200 amp

Don't know about your wages in Ohio,but allow yourself about 4 hours to complete the job plus materials and markup.You can change the panel out(most) alot quicker than that,but you still have to alllow for time spent at supply house,travel time to job,cleanup,etc.

BTW.How was your trip to Lubbock?Are we getting another New Texan ?

The factory had corporate meetings this week so it has been postponed until next week i will know more Monday i think iam going next thursday and friday now. i will keep you informed

Just got back from looking at the panel its an older ITE 200amp breaker box, half the CB are missing or bad. He wants me to put in a new box and hook the loads back up. This is in an old service station that he is going to use as a garage and his son is going to paint in it. what are the going rates for some 200amp panels 40ct.and the best and worst ones in your mind. i recommended Square D

ALOT OF THE "OLDER" SERVICE FEEDS I RUN INTO ARE NOT COMPLIANT WITH CODE NOW. AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THIS BOX BEFORE THE ONE THAT MADE THE OWNER WANT TO UPGRADE. I AM NOT SAYING YOU DID NOT ALREADY LOOK AT THIS, JUST MAKING SURE. EVEN IF THEY ARE "UP TO SNUFF" I CHANGE THEM TO THE METER ANYWAY BECAUSE OF AGE. NEVER CAN BE TO CAREFUL.

feed for the panel looks good and not that old. I think the panel is in bad shape but the owner told me he rented the place out to a guy who had a tire shop and the guy did abunch of his own wireing and messed up CB and pulled some so on so on. the feed is ok put in a new panel and run new wires for flouresent lights, 220v welder, 220v compressor, and a couple receptacles is all he is doing. so iam going to help him get the new panel in and get him squared away on his ckts.

I hope you mean with a roller or a brush only. If he's thinking about spraying, he'll need a booth, or you'll need to look at hazardous location stuff. Any way you go, that's really expensive, booth or service.

About two and a half years ago, I had the house upgraded to 200 amp service. The drop wire from the power company's transformer was able to handle it without being replaced.

New meter, Square-D Homeline Load Center and labor came out to about $1,400. That's in Northern NJ.

Here in my part of ohio,i start at $1200.00 and up,that includes outside to weatherhead and new insulator,meter socket, ground rod,42 circuit 200amp mb panel and branch circuit breakers,bonding as per nec and inspection.

OH & UG are factors

Meter only or Meter/Main is a factor

OCPD upgrades (to AFCI's) are a BIG factor

"Old Service Station" and "Painting" both bring some scary thoughts to mind.
Changing out a load center shouldn't be a big chore..4-8hrs total, but be sure of what the intentions are for its new use.

WEll guys my nice easy panel swap wasn't too bad just a few things they forgot to tell me because they didn't know is that its 3phase and they want single.

So went out saturday to get started after my buddy picked up a new 200amp SQD panel and i said hey ben this is 3phase. My dad said he had it change to single ah no he didn't.

So my simple panel swap turned into a complete new service drop weather head, meter box, wire, and all after.

got everything in today hoping the utility will come back tomorrow and turn on. I took day off work to do this for my buddy i told him its going to cost more than what i first told him, which isn't much he is a good friend, still need to run all ckts and put in some new romex.

Ben, Just a quick question. How did you "look" at the panel and the feeder and not notice that it was 3 phase? Did you even take the covers off when you estimated the job?

no i didnt look it over very well or take off panel, like i said this guy is a good friend and has done a lot of custom paint jobs on my kids dirt bike and other stuff so it was a favor to a friend kind of job. i owed him some favors now he owes me some more and a few bucks to boot. I am sure all of you have done this somewere along the line.

ahh here in north eastern wisconsin it typically over a thousand dollars for 200 amps ( single phase ) service and the manfacures i use is C-H prodits and sometime SQD also depend on what it is set up for but for three phase service it varis depend on set up due trois phase breakers (3ph) cost pretty high !!!!

i would give yourself about 7 total hours. this includes all travel time and buying time. the total job should cost around 900-1500.

Converting to single-phase sounds more like a downgrade, doesn't it?

I mean...

208V * 200A * (Sq. root 3) = 72kVA

240V * 200A = 48kVA

The only reason you'd need 3-pole breakers is for 3-phase equipment. Just have to make sure all your motor loads are rated for 120V or 208V.

Also, many 3-phase panels have feed-thru lugs. Would be a shame to have spent the time/money to replace the panel if it was just a matter of piggybacking the new panel on. (Providing the existing installation was sound.)

It makes me wonder if the power company has both 3phase 208 and 1phase 240 on the same pole. could be but not always.
