Holy cow! Talk about a completely useless subject and answer.

Does any poco offer a 3 phase residential rate? A small commercial rate with demand factors is the closet I know but that would be an expensive bill each month

A few houses around here have 3 phase services, put in 20 or more years ago. As far as I know the power companies do not offer a three phase residential service. The only advantage I see is for HVAC, but at least around here all the AC equipment suppliers only offer a 1 year warranty on commercial(three phase) units, while a 10 or more year warranty on residential units. That is on the compressor of course.

IIRC, in the EUSERC area (Western States) the upper limit for single phase service is 400 Amps.

If a mega-mansion needs more then it's going to be 3-phase: 208Y120 Volts.

Center-tapped delta 240 is no longer permitted in new installations -- as a rule.

(The machine tool industry has phased out 230V delta motors for quite some time. Dual voltage 230/460 is the norm. So, 480/277 Volt Services are the EUSERC industrial shop solution.)

EUSERC has banned/ shunned center-tapped delta Services because of their higher rate of risk for injury and damage. They are still available -- but only by exception/ convenience to the Poco.

When I look at the Service blues that pop up on ECN photo pages -- I'm pursuaded that the whole country ought to adopt EUSERC standards.

There is one house in all the towns I inspect that has 3 phase and it was a very old install. The gentleman used to have a small machine shop in his basement. If he took it out now, he would never get it back though. I also believe it was a delta hook up. Not sure, I haven't been in it for nearly 10 years.

By the way,

I guess DEX DON'T KNOW!

Years back I did a resi with 600 amp, 120/208, 3 phase. It was a mansion back then, not Mc; 3 phase loads were AC, and pool pumps. Yes, the POCO had a $$$ for the install and the monthly fees were high, but the owner did not care.

The big issue was 'does the conduit come in any clors, along with the 'big gray box' (CT cabinet)???

THere is one resi in the Twp I work in that has OLD 3 phase, delta, for an extinct machine shop.

I clicked on the 'DexKnows' logo at the top of the page, and then on 'About Us'.

Dex One advertises their services as:
"At Dex OneŽ, we offer online and print advertising opportunities"....."We want to help you reach, win, and keep local customers wherever, whenever, and however they look for a business like yours."

So it's an advertising company. And probably not a very good one, at that.
