CadWelds on steroids? I suppose you could use explosives to compress a splice sleeve. I just wonder how they were holding them together before the blast. Is this just recrimping a weak splice? You have me guessing.

The super compression reduces impedance losses on a line that is already carrying lots of current.

IR cameras showing hot spots tell the Poco where they could use a touch-up.

About 40 minutes east of me there is a new terminal station being cut into an existing 500 KV line and I was told that all the new terminations in the switchyard are going to be done using this method.

Because of the noise, the splicing method had to be included in the environmental assessment for the license to built the site.
