home automation - 04/19/01 12:26 AM
Maybe someone here can help me out. I'll be doing some major construction in my home soon and will have most of the walls open.
I've been trying to do research on home automation(i.e.,X10) home theater, fire and burglary systems. Most of these systems are sub-systems meaning I'll have boxes and control panels all over the place. Does anyone know of a single system that would accomadate all my needs? Am I correct to believe that hard-wiring all these is better than wireless IR? I know that for the most part I'll need 2 homeruns each of RG-6 and Cat5 but do you think I should include fiber opitic? Also as far as integrating the smoke/heat detectors with these differant systems would you recommend 2 or 4 wire? Line
voltage or low volt with a fixed 12 volt battery source for back up?
