I'm looking for a decent brand of small closet light,
~fluoresant...
~covered element...
~center fed for RX...
~preferably 12-18" length...
This would be switched via wall switch.

any help appreciated....

Have you tried an under cabinet light? That's what we use primarily in closets, usually mount over the door on the wall. As for brand, sometimes we use GE, sometimes it's Lithonia Lighting.

in smaller closets i will use 12 or 24 inch fluorscent fixture mounted over a coverd (with 1/2" ko)pancake box mounted on wall over the door. i then use a clear plastic tube proctor as a guard. these units are lower cost than the under cabinet fixtures. ken m

Ken why not bring the romex into the light directly?.

Ken, I agree with Electricmanscott's comment about bringing the wire directly into the fixture. Look at 410.14(B). Your 1/2" K.O. would not provide access to the box.

sorry i didn't explain the idea in much detail. the pancake box is mounted directly to the header over the door then the sheetrock around the box with the nm cable coming thru the box and into the fixture.
because of the narrow width of the fixture the entire pancake box is not sufficiently covered by the fix. that is why i usually put a cover on the pan box. if that makes any sense.
thx., ken m

I ended up using some undercab fluoresants after all, thanks for the tip!
