What is the proper way to say: 230.24? Is it section 230.24? I thought I read that the 2002 NEC does not use the word section any longer????

Not only that, but are we to say "dot", "period", or "decimal point" when quoting a code "section"?
Boy, this whole 100% code compliant thing gets more complicated everyday...

I believe it's "dot". I read so many publications I can't remember where I read section was not going to be used anymore. If not what word will now be used?
I know if it's just 230, it's article 230.

Boy I long for the day when we said dash. I only use the term section when talking to people who have no code knowledge, just my 2 cents

Use of the term Section would not be a problem when discussing the rule out load because, I have found myself saying "Article 250.20", for example, and use of the word "Article" to identify a "Section" is a major "Code Scholar's offense!
I shutter when I see that in writing, or hear someone say it that way!
The accepted use of the word "DOT" is well established, and was the subject of some discussion early on.
Use of the word "period" sounds strange.
I was not having any problems with the word "dash" and worked with NFPA' s Electrical Engineer Pete Schram, who used the word "Hyphen".

Actually the 1999 Code is presently being enforced. Perhaps next year the 2002 NEC will be adopted.

Wow! Never knew that the NEC had a style manual. Thanks for the tip Joe. I'll down load that too. Is point acceptable? Just to make it simple if I were to say:
"Section 250 Dash 96 Point b" 250-96.(B) Would this be correct?
Or... Should I say:
"Section 250 Dash 96 Dot b" 250-96.(B)
